Watch: The Watershed Divde

‘Divide’ has become wildly overused when it comes to naming bikepacking routes. For iconic routes like the Tour Divide, the term’s reference was aimed at the dividing line of the watershed, the rocky spine of the Rockies for example and it has since been reshaped to represent various cultural or geographical features. In some instances it’s slapped onto a route’s name without much thought of what it is the ‘division’ represents besides something vaguely bikepacking.

In Rupert Barry’s new film, the divide in question refers to the invisible dividing line of the river Monnow’s watershed. From his front door, Rupert plots an off road route following that dividing line, along the Welsh-English border, across mountainous upland and rural lowlands, to explore the landscapes therefore that contribute to his home river.
