Sisters in the Wild Launch New Bikepacking Bursary

Adventure Awaits: New Bikepacking Bursary to Empower Women and Marginalised Genders with Over £5,000 in Gear & Support

Sisters in the Wild is a women-led cycling and adventure community that creates supportive, inclusive spaces for women, non-binary, and other marginalised gender riders to explore, upskill and connect. From grassroots bikepacking weekends to large-scale gatherings, and remote adventure trips, Sisters in the Wild celebrates the joy of cycling and the outdoors.

Now, the community launches its first Bikepacking Bursary. The new initiative is designed to support women and marginalised genders to experience the freedom of bikepacking.

The bursary offers everything an aspiring adventurer would need to start bikepacking as a package of prizes from leading outdoor and cycling brands, including:

  • Ortlieb - complete set of top-of-the-line bikepacking bags worth up to £400

  • 7Mesh – £400 gift voucher for high-performance apparel

Applications are open from 1–10 September 2025 and riders can nominate themselves, or submit a nomination on behalf of a deserving rider for the prize as well.  That means men are welcome to get involved by nominating someone who would be positively impacted by the bursary.

The winners will be selected by the Sisters in the Wild team based on enthusiasm, potential impact for the individual, and alignment with the bursary’s mission: to encourage more women, non-binary and marginalised genders to discover bikepacking in a supportive and welcoming environment.

‘We know how transformative it can be to ride into the wild, sleep under the stars, and discover what’s possible on two wheels',’ says Charlotte Inman, director of Sisters in the Wild UK. ‘This bursary is about opening that opportunity to riders who may not otherwise have access to the gear or support to embark on their dream bikepacking adventure. This initiative aims to show them that adventure is unequivocally within their reach.’

Since its first event in 2021, Sisters in the Wild has built a vibrant community of riders through grassroots events, intro to bikepacking weekends, and its flagship Summer Gathering, creating spaces where women and marginalised genders can build confidence, friendships, and skills. They’ve since gone on to programme a wilder series of trips to locations such as Albania, Bosnia and Kyrgyzstan. This bursary extends their mission by removing financial and practical barriers to participation.
